The expert answers your questions
Is it possible to restore the injured tooth?
Any accident with child is noticed by his parents painfully, the injury of teeth located in the center causes huge emotional stress for all family members. This case is understandable. Feeling of pain, possible adverse events, distortion of smile esthetics – all these feelings of parents have the base, they are understandable, but useless. Modern dentistry perfectly solves this tissue. Direct restoration is used to make perfect esthetics and functionality of an injured tooth.
Why dental injuries are so commonly spread among children, what the result could be?
Front teeth are damaged by children, as a rule, when falling and impacts with hard objects. The most frequent damage (67.8% of clinical cases) is fracture of crown of the central teeth of upper jaw. This happens due to the fact, that occlusion is widely spread, when upper central teeth overlap the lower ones and the entire energy from impact is received by them. Dental injury leads not only to damage of tooth integrity, but to its malfunction, root and soft tissues damage.
What age is the most dangerous for this?
Young children in the most cases have dental injury at the age of 2.5-3 years. This happens due to intellectual curiosity of baby and lack of sense of danger. The peak of injuries has the age of 8-10 years during mixed occlusion. This happens due to physical activity of children, with beginning of sports exercises, lack of proper attention over their behavior by adults. The case in this age is complicated by the fact that the root of tooth is not completely formed yet. Dentist has the task to create favorable conditions for preserving the pulp alive for completion of root formation process.
What shall we do when the tooth is broken?
First of all, you shall go to dentistry with X-ray equipment immediately. Because only the X-ray diagnostics can precisely detect the depth of injury, the place of fracture of the tooth and bone tissue of jaws, if any, or exclude them. Of course, undeniable opportunities in this field has 3D X-ray dental computed tomograph, which allows to look at all planes of dentofacial system and detect even hidden damages.
Is this type of computed tomograph available Volgograd?
Yes, we have it in our dentistry. A couple of minutes is enough in any case to determine the source of question with the help of 3D tomograph "Morita". The tomograph is completely safe for patients and medical staff. The exposure level for the human body is 6 -10 times lower than by X-ray machines of previous generation. We accept patients for medical survey from all dentistries of the region.
Is it possible to restore the broken tooth in its previous shape?
Yes, of course. After the treatment of tooth preservation the question of restoring its esthetics and functionality will arise. Now new technologies replaced steel swaged crown. At present time due to new dental filling materials, having preventive effect, good adhesion and wide range of colors, it is possible to restore damaged crowns of temporary and permanent teeth by direct restoration method.
Direct dental restoration, what is this?
Direct dental restoration is a technique of recreation of missing dental tissues layer by layer by polymer restorative or light polymerizing resins. Such restorations recreate the shape, the function and the esthetic appearance of tooth. At the same time it is very important to choose the right filling material, that meets the requirements and the expectations for final result of restoration.
How successfully such restorations are performed in your dentistry?
Doctors of Dental Health Center "Lazur" have accumulated huge experience for many years of treatment of children with dental injuries of different complexity by direct restoration method. Since 1998 our dentistry applies filling materials of Swiss company "Coltene/Whaledent" entirely in the restoration process. Having a variety of colors in the color palette we can choose the correct color even for the most complicated clinical case. It is easy to predict density and transparency of color, recreate anatomy of tooth tissues. In this filling material the matrix was used in the first time, which by its optical properties and characteristics is close to the natural tooth enamel and can partially refract, reflect the light, and have the most important property – to pass the light through. We appreciated this unique optical property at once: the line between the tooth and the filling can be invisible at all.
Is it possible to avoid the effect of "absence of teeth" during special lighting, for example, in a disco or a camera flash?
Yes, indeed, some time it happens – the teeth look invisible in unnatural light. This occurs in event of restoration with material without fluorescent properties. Filling materials we use will ensure the natural color and hide the restoration in unusual lighting conditions. Today patients are very strict to esthetics and natural look of dental restorations, the "invisibility" of restoration becomes a prerequisite. Our task is to fulfill these conditions.
Should a child having restored tooth be followed up by a dentist?
Yes. All cases of children's dental injuries are taken under medical supervision. Young patients visit their dentists on a regular basis, allowing them to track long-term results of treatment.
