The correct diagnosis is fundamental point of any treatment
For such reason Dental Health Center "Lazur" was equipped with unique instrument – 3D X-ray tomograph "Veraviewepocs" of Japanese company "Morita". At that time this brand new equipment became a real breakthrough in the field of radiological examination of patients and made a sensation among the dentists of the city, today the application of the tomograph has become a reality and vital necessity for many specialists and their patients.
More than 10000 patients were examined by computed tomograph (CT),
examined were not only our patients, but from many municipal and private dentistries of the city and the region. All of them appreciated its convenience, simplicity and examination speed. The most common feedback can be formed as phrase – this is as like to fly into space!
In fact, they are not far from the truth, it has no long a secret that 3D CT has the following features:
• reliable diagnosis in one visit;
• scanning and obtaining of three-dimensional image within 10 seconds;
• level of radiation exposure is in 6-8 times lower than from conventional X-ray unit;
• results can be viewed on any computer and data can be exported to any location in the world.
The CT examination technique was mastered by all the doctors of "Lazur" and generously shared it with their colleagues from other health care facilities by organizing the reception of their patients in the X-ray room of "Lazur".
During the whole period of use of 3D CT not only teeth diseases of high complexity were detected, but large number of diseases of Highmore's sinus, maxillo-temporal joints, fractures of teeth roots. In particular, several patients were accidently diagnosed with cancer during the examination of other abnormity. Timely detection of such diseases in most cases helps patients to make quality treatment at an early stage and save them from problems in the future. We work for all residents of the city and the region. We foresee everything. The main thing for us is life!
3D technologies in the service of dentists
The development and implementation into clinical practice of X-ray computed tomography (CT) was the largest achievement of science and technology.
Tomography – a method of medical diagnosis based on study of three-dimensional images of internals of the human body. A computer made possible to make three-dimensional (or triaxial) CT. This is a method of radiation diagnostics, where the research data is obtained by X-ray method: X-rays are passed through tissues of body and, depending of absorption degree, a projection of internals are obtained on a special flat detector.
CT allows to identify position, shape, size and anatomy of various structures with the accuracy necessary for decision making (or effectiveness evaluation) of the treatment plan. The first CT was tested in 1974. Subsequently its creators, engineers Cormack and Hounsfield, received the Nobel prize for this invention, and computed tomography became one of the most popular diagnosis methods.
Development of CT technology was on the way of improvement of spiral CT scanners. At the beginning of the 21st century a completely new computed tomograph appeared in the market of diagnostic equipment. The precision CT scanner provides high-quality three-dimensional (triaxial) digital image. The slice thickness can be set from 0.125 mm up to 2.0 mm. The scanning is performed for 10 seconds.
Three-dimensional tooth image, obtained in sagital, frontal and horizontal planes, allows to identify a number of anatomical features of roots, root canals and make more detailed assessment of dental ligament and parodentium.
You can see bone defects, fractures in detail. Actions necessary for implant placement can be carried out easily: qualitative and quantitative bone measurements and other ones. All information is stored in computer memory and, if necessary, will be provided for further diagnosis as mini software, even to other medical institutions. Doctor has the opportunity to carry out diagnostics and calculations in his private computer.
With the help of 3D tomograph "Morita" few minutes is enough in any clinical case to get the comprehensive information about the problem.
Advantages of computed tomography
What are the advantages of computed tomography in comparison with other methods of X-ray diagnostics?
1. If a typical X-ray pattern is a summarized image, in which all the details are overlapped, a computed tomography scan is a tissue slice drawn arbitrarily in the exact area with thickness from less than one millimeter up to few millimeters.
2. Any typical X-ray image is taken in real time and remains in its state in the future. It can be viewed by X-ray view box or in the program of the visiograph, but the object cannot be seen from different view angle or projection – new X-ray pattern shall be done for this purpose. In contrast, a three-dimensional view, stored in computer memory, is the exact copy of the entire scanned area and, in case of patient absence, can be examined by specialist at any angle, side, plane and depth.
The tomograph is completely safe for patients and medical staff. The exposure level for the human body is 6 -10 times lower than by X-ray machines of previous generation.
The up-dated models of tomographs can be used by doctors of any specialty, including ENT specialists, neurosurgeons, dentists due to field of research - the human head. It is very important for a dental surgeon to take into account the location of the mandibular part of tri-facial nerve (alveolar nerve, mental nerve, lingual nerve) when placing the implants in the lower jaw.
Also, implant surgeons can simulate the implantation operation in 3D using program, which includes world leading implants systems data. With the help of this tool it is possible to analyze maxillo-temporal joints, all maxillary sinus cavities (including ethmoidal labyrinth and sphenoid sinus), periotic bone, any parts of facial skeleton, and, if desired, the radiocarpal joint in full.
Imaging room in dentistry "Lazur" is opened, it is equipped with single in the Volgograd region 3D X-ray tomograph of Japanese company "Morita" – world leader in production of diagnostic medical equipment.
The imaging room of "Lazur" is opened for all residents of Volgograd and Volgograd region. The effectiveness of this technology is confirmed by its application for various areas of dentistry, including implantation and oro-maxillofacial surgery. Global experience tell us, that CT technology provides high level of diagnostics of hardly detectable abnormities, significantly reduces time of examination and improves quality of further treatment.
